Gov. Lujan Grisham signed the paid sick leave legislation that the New Mexico Legislature passed in the 2021 legislative session.

Most private employers will soon have to provide paid sick leave to its employees. This is great news for New Mexico's workers.

I still have to read the final legislation that Gov. Lujan Grisham signed and will provide my analysis soon. However, based on my knowledge of the bills that were discussed during the legislative session, this new law will significantly help and protect New Mexico's workers. In a nutshell, the new law will give New Mexico's workers GURANTEED paid time off when they are sick.

This is important because sick workers should stay home so they can recover so that they can return to work as soon as possible without having to worry about losing their jobs.

The new law also protects healthy workers because it ensures that their sick co-workers won't infect them. If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it is the importance of allowing sick workers to stay home so their healthy co-workers are not exposed.

Look for my more detailed analysis of this new law soon.
